It turns out it was only Rapture Session instruments dropping out - GPO4 Aria instruments were fine. MediaGary, you were actually super helpful and I believe, quite close to the answer. Inside the DAW, the little green volume/sound indicator for the instrument that cuts out does indeed show the individual instruments are making sound, but then suddenly each rapidly drops to no sound when it cuts out. Sometimes two things cut out around the kind of the same time. Like the guitar might cut out, but everything else continues, and then something else drops out but the guitar comes back.
